Main Premise: In the movie The Amazing Spider-Man, there are much more male characters than female characters. Of course, the protagonist is of course a male named Peter Parker and the antagonist also a male named Dr. Kurt Connors. The two female characters that actually has some importance in the movie are Spider-man’s girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, and Peter’s aunt. The movie is mainly about the male characters fighting for what is right and what is wrong. The only thing female characters does are getting kidnapped and waiting for the main character to save them.
Character Roles: The female characters are the ones seen as nurtures. The only thing Peter’s aunt do is encourage and worry about Peter. Gwen Stacy, on the other hand, abdicates the typical gender role by doing physical work to save Peter but eventually waits for Peter to save her. This is seen as a positive action because she is not in distress and tries to solve the problem.
Communications and Power: The two most important female characters that appear in the movie are Aunt May and Gwen Stacy. Aunt May, to Peter Parker, is a nurturing figure so she always care for and encourages Peter. Gwen Stacy, who is Peter’s love interest, cooperates with him to save New York City. She doesn’t fit in the typical gender role and helps Peter by breaking into the lab and making new chemicals for cure.
