“The seemingly impenetrable wall of sexism in rap music is really the complex mask African Americans sometimes wear both to hide and express the pain. At the close of this millennium, hip-hop is still one of the few forums in which young black men even surreptitiously are allowed to express their pain”.
In rap music, there is still a wall between men and women. Furthermore, women are objectified and marginalized only to be used for sex and are less superior to men is constantly overused. Elaborating on men, African American men sometimes wear a "mask" in order to hide their pain and suffering. Not only is hip-hop an outlet for men to express their feelings, but for men, their gender role tells them not to feel emotion whatsoever. This “mask” worn is to display how they must act tough, violent, aggressive and dominant. |
