In hip-hop music, the guy code is set in stone. Many rappers portray themselves as gangsters or men that have sex, fight or do other reckless actions that put each other in danger. In the song “Regulate” by Warren G and Nate Dogg, Nate Dogg says “these hookers lookin so hard they straight hit the curb onto bigger, better things than some horny tricks, I see my homies and some suckas all in his mix”. Nate Dogg is objectifying women and saying that they are only sex objects and only for pleasure. One other example of the guy code shown in rap is in the song “Straight Outta Compton” by the group N.W.A. In the first few lines, the member Ice Cube shouts “crazy m*****f**ker named Ice Cube, from a gang called N***** With Attitude, When I'm called off, I got a sawed off, squeeze the trigger, and bodies are hauled off”. In the guy code, males must be aggressive in order to be perceived as manly and tough. Ice Cube calling himself crazy and willing to start violence shows how he tells people not to mess with him. One other key rule of guy code is to always one up each other whether it be materialistic or something else. The group Migos states in the song “Versace”, “shoes and shirt Versace, your b**** want in my pockets, she ask me why my drawers silk, I told that b**** Versace, cheetah print on my sleeves but I ain't ever been to the jungle”. Migos is clearly trying to tell everyone that they are richer and living a finer life than everyone since everything that they claim to have is Versace.
